This fourth installment of the Breath of Fire series is a fairly traditional Japanese-style RPG, with turn-based combat, party management, linear story progression, and other characteristic elements of the genre. His plan is to return to the world of human, conquer it anew, and impose his iron rule on it. Meanwhile, the ancient Emperor Fou Lu awakens from his slumber in his tomb. Confused by the strange events taking place, Nina agrees to help the young boy. At the very same time, Nina is again attacked by a dragon. With their vehicle damaged, Nina returns to the city to find parts, bumping into a naked young boy named Ryu along the way, who is unsure of where he is. Flying through the sky on their sandflier, Nina and Cray are attacked by a worm shaped dragon. Great on paper, bad in execution.Nina, the princess of Wyndia, and Cray, chieftain of the cat-like Woren tribe, are searching for Cray's relatives who disappeared under mysterious circumstances during a diplomatic mission. Where you need to play through the whole game with only 5-9 saves and every single battle is deadly if you take one wrong action. It's basically just one huge "escape the dungeon" challenge. I say BoF4 is the most accessible of all.īoF Dragon Quarter is my most hated game of all time, but I'm from Europe and they completely messed up in that version by removing the two most important core mechanics (quick save and restart). Only the final dungeon was a bit frustrating, huge dungeon with no save points and a one hour final boss fight at the end. And it has the fun aspect of playing the villain simultaneously. It's a bit easier than the prequels, no grinding required. By the time I played that I wasn't really too fond of particularly hard JRPGs anymore so I didn't enjoy it as much.īreath of Fire 4 improved the formula perfectly. I enjoyed it a lot.īreath of Fire 3 is also really hard and adds a lot complexity by adding lots of extra mechanics and minigames. It was pretty grindy and very challenging, but really gave you this sense of accomplishment. It's also pretty fun to play with great OST. Neither bad nor good.īreath of Fire 2 was a pretty huge JRPG with tons of secrets and fun stuff to do.
